**This article was previously published on July 22, 2016, in collaboration with a vendor that is no longer in business.  I have updated the information and hope you find it helpful, as holiday makeup and the season of special events is here!

When women pay for makeup applications, there are times when they get discouraged about the amount of makeup they end up with or the placement or color selection.  Usually they are on their way to a formal or special event and there is very little time to fix the makeup.

I really hope you will never have a makeup crisis, but before you consider giving up and starting over, I have offered a few tips that may curb such a crisis.

1) Speak Up!  You have a right to see your makeup as it progresses.  If you don't see something you like in the mirror, try to communicate that as soon as you can with your makeup artist.

2) Your makeup artist may be an expert, but they are your contracted employee for your event, so you deserve the makeup look you want.

3) If you aren't satisfied at the conclusion of your appointment and still feel compelled to fix whatever bothers you yourself, you may be able to "save face" with these tips:

a) a clean and dry brush can be used to soften or blend makeup

b) translucent powder also tone down cheek color or fade hard makeup lines

c) a pointed cotton tipped applicator can soft eyeliner

d) a non-latex sponge can be used to blur makeup around the jawline. Spoolies can reshape brows and separate lashes

 4)  If your makeup happens to be too soft, you can always add color on top, just add lightly

I hope this tips help stave off any panic.

In the future, if you find yourself in need of a light-handed, natural makeup artist in the greater Houston area, I would love to be of assistance!
